Gold Cup Race Day Wrap Up!

Perfect weather conditions, quality racehorses and Australia’s best jockeys attracted a huge crowd to Newcastle Racecourse for the 2018 Sharp Electronics Group Newcastle Gold Cup Day. Taking place on Friday 14th September, with four Group 3 events on the eight-race program, Newcastle Cup Day boasts the finest days of racing on a Provincial track in New South Wales.

Trainer Chris Waller won his third Newcastle Cup when Carzoff completed the Wyong-Newcastle Cup double. Kerrin McEvoy rode a patient race on the six-year-old and had to weave a passage through the field, before ‘Carzoff’ burst through a late gap to score by a long neck over ‘Auvray’, with ‘Just Shine’ a length away in third.

From the splendid style and the suave suits, to the betting, the big wins and of course the horses, it’s always a seriously good day out at the races.
